Perhaps triathlons have become too regimented, too big. 4,000 people participating; getting up at 4:30 in the morning; no place to park. Expensive entry fees. Seems all events grow bigger each year and people lose sight of the true meaning of amateur events. When I was a kid I played sandlot ball, no adult supervision, no structure, etc. just a lot of fun. Now there is Little League everything, all structured. It seems to me it has become work or even worse. Why not organize fun events that require no big venue? No stain. Perhaps some pain but nothing like I see at the big events. There are plenty of activities one can participate in that are much less formal and grand scale. Just my thoughts based upon what you said relating to the poem. Dad
