Hi, my name is Renee and I'm quite a handful to both my mommy and daddy. And, although I am their "littlest flower," I have the spirit of a sudden spring rainstorm. I know it drives the entire family bonkers but, forgive me, I am only 6 years old. Ahh... being the youngest is a wonderful thing.

Below are significant events that happened around the world during the year (2001) I was born:

  • A 7.9-earthquake strikes Gujarat, India killing more than 20,000 people.

  • Beijing is picked to host the 2008 Olympic Games.

  • Terrorists attack the U.S.: 3 commercial jets crash into World Trade Center and the Pentagon. 

  • The Federal Trade Commission approved the merger of AOL and Time Warner to form AOL Time Warner.

  • The United States begins a military strike on Afghanistan.

  • Microsoft releases Windows XP.

  • Enron files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection five days after Dynegy canceled a US$8.4 billion buyout bid. At the time this was the largest bankruptcy in the history of the United States.
